When comparing Berlin's Postdalmer Platz development in Germany and the meteoric construction development of Shanghai's Pudong New Area, everyone preferred China as it also marked a year before the official hand over of the Suzhou Industrial Park. The fact that Shanghai was one the world's largest construction sites made the choice simple.
The delegation was fortunate to have an opening address by the Singapore's Consul-General Mr. Ong Lu King. It was followed by a briefing by Chesterton Oriental Property Consultants' Ms Wendy Yao who outlined the real estate and investment market in both Shanghai, Pudong and Suzhou and a briefing by PWD Corporation's Mr Lee Chee Kiat and Pidemco Land's Mr Loh Shyh on the construction industry in Shanghai and greater China throwing light on penetration strategies and crucial success criteria.
The delegation members visited some of the most prominent buildings of the Shanghai Pudong New Area skyline namely, the Oriental Pearl Tower, the newly erected Jin Mao Tower and the site of the future world's tallest building. Other attractions were the unique Shanghai Opera designed by the French architect Jean-Marie Charpentier and a visit to the Shanghai Urban Development Authority where a scale model of the present and future development of Shanghai was showcased.
The delegation also visited China-Singapore Suzhou Industrial Park Development and the Suzhou New District. The trip culminated in a visit to the old city of Shanghai and a taste of the exotic Shanghai cuisine ensuring all members of the delegation a thoroughly memorable time.
